Steven Spielberg

Operator

Film director interviewed by the Academy of Achievement about creative work and intuition. His account shows how one expert notices a quiet hunch.

Spielberg has made films under high stakes for many years. By 2000, he had won three film awards from the Directors Guild. [2]

The Guild gave him its top career honor that year. He had also won two Academy Awards. [2] Awards do not prove a theory. They do show that his peers had praised his work over time.

In a later talk, Spielberg said gut sense is a whisper, not a shout. [1] The line comes from someone who made many costly creative calls. It tells us how his own sense feels as he works.

The limit is strict. Spielberg makes films. He does not study gut sense. His success makes the story clear, but not true for all people. Trust the quote as his own report. Use research to judge when gut sense should have weight. [1] [2]
