What you’re in for

In addition to coaching ~20 venture-backed startup CEOs, I’m spending 20 to 30 hours a week on Management Craft, and I’m making it for you: founders and executives of startups scaling from 1 to 100.

As of July 2026, my plan is to finish out the Hiring competency cluster, and as I add competencies there, you can expect new tools to go along with them. I’m not wedded to the next cluster being performance, but it’s the one I’ve been asked for the most. Goal-setting & planning, board management, managing up, and more are on my mind too. If you have ideas, please let me know.

You can also expect short anecdotes about the fun stuff I learn as I research. When I began working on the tool page for the Dreyfus Model, I learned all kinds of things about the Dreyfus brothers that, had the newsletter been live then, I’d definitely have shared.

Now, I don’t know everything. I’m doing this in public because I’m hoping to be corrected (with kindness, of course). If you have critiques, please share them. If you have ideas, please share them. And if you have tools you’ve found particularly helpful, please share them!

Finally, the cadence: every other Tuesday. What I can promise is the rhythm, not the size — I ship whatever is finished that morning, and an issue with one good thing in it is a success. If a Tuesday comes around and nothing’s ready, I’ll skip it and say so. That doesn’t break the promise. Quietly letting the date slide would.

Thank you for reading along. I’m looking forward to what’s next!

Who’s writing?

I’ve been an executive coach to 40+ founders and CEOs since 2020.

I’m obsessed with finding the recipes for what works as founders and executives scale from one to one hundred.

Management Craft is a labor of love and my canvas for sharing what I find and honing my craft both as a teacher, designer, and writer.

Previously, I founded Holloway and Mattermark. I wrote The Holloway Guide to Raising Venture Capital. I’m active on Twitter and you can learn more about me here.
