Carlos and Rosa de la Cruz Associate Professor of Marketing at the Wharton School; co-author, with Steven D. Shaw, of a 2026 SSRN working paper on how AI is reshaping human reasoning and the rise of cognitive surrender.

Nave is the Carlos and Rosa de la Cruz Associate Professor of Marketing at the Wharton School, where he holds a PhD in Computation & Neural Systems from Caltech and a BSc/MSc in Electrical Engineering (signal processing) from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology [1]. His research applies tools from computational neuroscience, digital-footprint data, genotyping, and hormonal assays to how people make decisions, published in Science, PNAS, Management Science, Nature Human Behaviour, the Journal of Marketing, and the Journal of Marketing Research [1]. He holds an NSF CAREER award (2020–2025, the NSF’s most prestigious early-career recognition), the Association for Consumer Research’s Early Career Award (2024–2025), the Association for Psychological Science’s Rising Star Award (2020), and a Poets & Quants “Best 40 Under 40” listing (2021) [1].

Nave is adjacent to management, not devoted to it. He is a marketing and consumer-neuroscience scholar; MC’s interest is a single line of his output, decision-making under AI assistance, not a career built around organizations or managers. What raises his standing beyond a one-off citation is a body of methodology work on research credibility itself: he is a co-author, alongside Colin Camerer, Anna Dreber, and Brian Nosek, of a 2018 Nature Human Behaviour study that replicated 21 experimental findings from Nature and Science (2010–2015), reproducing a significant effect in the same direction for 13 of 21 studies (62%), with replicated effect sizes averaging about half the original [2].

His more recent work sits closer to management practice. With Wharton innovation scholar Christian Terwiesch, he co-authored a 2025 Nature Human Behaviour paper, filed under the journal’s “Business and management” subject area, finding that ChatGPT decreases idea diversity in group brainstorming [3]. Combined with the cognitive-surrender paper, that gives him a small but genuine and current thread on how AI changes group and individual decision quality: the specific claim MC cites him for. He does not carry standing on organizational design, leadership, or people management; treat him as a credible instrument for “what does controlled experimental evidence say about people’s cognition when AI is in the loop,” not as a general management authority.
